Thinking Bloggers: Not Just Neurologists

Cambridge Lockdown Update: Ugh. I haven't slept in 24 hours due to having to jostle for table space at my 24-hour-open library. (Even though we have a 5-week vacation, many students have elected not to go home in favour of staying at the library to revise, despite living 2 hours away in London. Only in Cambridge, folks, only in Cambridge. --Editor) My eyes feel like they're about to pop out of my head, and I am strangely gripped by the suspicion that this may be because my brain has melted and is about to start pouring out of my eye sockets.

But I finally crawl out of my prison cell at the library, come home, and am just about to read my favourite blogs with a nice steaming cup of hot chocolate when I stumble on this. And this. And then Dr Crippen 'BritMeds' me saying this:
The Angry Medic is not overworked, it seems.
"Term ended at Cambridge last week and the holidays have already started..."
It’s all right for some!
Oh hohohoho. Eet's a conspeeracee, I tell you! They're all trying to get me to go back to work. I know whose fault this is. My Director of Studies must have put them up to this. But no matter. I'm still going to get some sleep.

Then, as I lift the cup of hot chocolate to my lips, I glance at my watch, and the kicker hits.

Thanks to British Summer Time, I have just been robbed of an hour.

ONE HOUR! Do you know what an hour MEANS? I could have memorised FOUR different signalling mechanisms in that hour! HEARTLESS CHILD-MURDERING THIRD-WORLD-COUNTRY- ENSLAVING BASTARDS *shakes fist at whoever dreamt up British Summer Time*

So it is only natural, then, that I put down my cup of hot chocolate, clear everything from my hard, spartan wooden table, and begin rhythmically slamming my head against the tabletop, praying for unconsciousness before any more bad news hits me.

But just before unconsciousness swallows me, I check my mail, and hallelujah! My first piece of good news for the day. My favourite nurse Mother Jones has tagged me with the Thinking Blogger Award, an award which I've been following across the web but which I never thought I'd be worthy of, what with my inane ramblings here.

It's called the Thinking Blogger meme, and I'm honoured to pass it on to the 5 blogs that make me think (in no particular order):

1. If you get tagged, write a post with links to 5 blogs that make you think,
2. Link to this post so that people can easily find the exact origin of the meme,
3. Optional: Proudly display the 'Thinking Blogger Award' with a link to the post that you wrote (here is an alternative silver version if gold doesn't fit your blog).

1. Michelle vs The Med Student
2. Nurse William
3. The Rumours Were True
4. HospitalPhoenix
5. A Jolly Company

These are blogs whose subject matter, being far more substantial than mine, make me think. Tag, you're it! You can of course choose not to participate in the meme, but I give you the award nevertheless.

Now excuse me whilst I go get my regular six five hours of sleep. (Dangit. --Ed)

Thanks Angry, and congratulations on Medscape. I hear they only take the ones that think.

EXCUSE me, Edinburgh is NOT crap. In fact, it is quite prestigious. The Malaysian Idiots who told you it's crap should be tossed into a trash bin.

And I'm not a kid =_=

Assumptions, assumptions! I'm not a student in Edinburgh. Going some place else. It's just that I did some research on the university and went there for a few days...

I'm just defending Edinburgh University against the Malaysian idiots who say things without thinking because they read too much Mastika for education.

That's it ;)

And the reason why you can't see the pics is probably coz of.... sucky connection? =p

Is there part of this conversation I can't see? Where is the Edinburgh connection? And why do Malaysians think its crap? And where do Malaysians think is good?

maybe cos i am familiar, unless ur refering to someone else.

24 hours in the library? must add that to my '10 things to do before i die' list.

meh I'm still baffled.

Edinburgh is crap though.

Excuse me for responding so late to this, I was getting my flak armour on.

Right, to clarify, I did NOT say Edinburgh was crap! In fact I said it was quite good (and complimented its Gothic architecture. I like Gothic architecture. And Goths. They're hawt). It's just that some people (whom in retrospect I can see were obviously fatally misinformed, the dimwits) told me during A-Levels that Edinburgh's medical course was a little disorganised.

Sorry, HP and DundeeMedStudent, what you got were snippets of comments I'd left on other blogs. DMS, ye're not at Edinburgh, are ye laddie?

Aki: See what a mess you got me into. Bad kid. No lollipop for you.

Atee-hee. Whoopps!!

I am so confused.

Hey! That comic is awesome.. do you mind if I put it on my post and give credit to you with a link?

The Angry Medic said...

Little Medic: Heh. That's generally what people say when they meet me :( sorry for the confusion. Don't you just hate it when people hold conversations across different blogs? It's like Facebook all over again.

Ilker: Whoa, the man himself! Thanks for your kind words...go ahead, by all means, I'd be honoured. You seem to have started a very infectious meme here, by the way :)

Hooray! People across the pond have to put up with daylight savings time, too!
It's fun to turn the clock forward during a 12-hour shift, but not-so-much the other way.

Just to drop by and say hello.

"Hello!"

Right. Edinburgh is crap. I'm a Malaysian and I'm an idiot.

Kidding by the way, :)

Ah, so bloggers lie and think. Well, if we are to be branded liars, at least it won't be brainless, unthinking, irrational liars. Unlike the ones doing the branding...

P.S. You have so many good posts here, you should have a contest for people to vote their fav posts of yours to be included in the Bloggers are Liars collection.

Just checking in on you Medic.(( ))

OMG. relax!!!!! you need some sleep if not you'll not be able to memorise any signalling mechanisms at all! coming from a fellow traditionalist college, i fully empathise. dont' let exams get you down!!!

If someone says something is crap, they need to state why. otherwise they're just being an arse.

So for example 'I think Edinburgh's crap because they beat you round the head each morning when you arrive at lectures' might be a worthy statement if it were true.

However, most clinical courses are what you make of them. If it's crap, perhaps you're not putting enough into it. And even if it is genuinely crap, I suggest doing something about it rather than whinging about it and failing to provide any reason why you're whinging.

'Crap' is pretty subjective. And if something's crap, you need to sort it out, not just whinge and bitch about it.

NurseWilliam said...

Hospital Phoenix- you have hit a line drive over the center field wall and smashed the windshield of a 1964 Nash Rambler in Parking Lot 3-A. Touch 'em all! (That means you hit a home run.)

Clinicals are what you make them. Even a "crappy" clinical can be a valuable learning experience if you apply yourself to learning as much as you can. Psych rotation was that way for me. I use what I have learned every day in the ER.
